Recognise what algorithmic hiring actually removes from your decisions

When you use HireVue or Eightfold, you are not removing bias from hiring. You are replacing human bias with statistical bias encoded into code. These tools learn patterns from your past hires, which means they replicate who you hired before, including the people you should not have hired. The cost is not just fairness. It is that you lose the ability to see candidates who do not fit the pattern but who would be genuinely good in the role. Your job is to know when the algorithm has excluded someone worth interviewing.

Keep performance management conversations human, not data-driven

Your performance management system now shows you engagement scores, collaboration metrics, and productivity dashboards. These numbers feel objective. They are not. An employee might have low engagement because they are managing a health crisis, not because they are disengaged. They might be quiet in meetings because they are thinking, not because they are not contributing. Build systems where someone still advocates for each person

Algorithmic systems have no memory of why someone was hired or what they are building toward.
